A 63 billion euros business: the Italian electrical engineering and electronic industry 3rd in Europe by size of turnover

Hannover, April 8th 2014 – ANIE Confindustria, embodying the Italian Electrical Engineering and Electronic Industry, attends to the Hannover Messe exhibition with a representative group of companies located at PUNTO ITALIA. This industry amounts to 63 billion Euros of total turnover (3rd position in Europe), 29 billion Euros of export and 425,000 employees. The ANIE system supplies technologies for public and private infrastructures in strategic markets such as industry, transport, energy and building.
Annually, on average, Italian Electrical Engineering and Electronic Companies invest 4% of total turnover in Research and Development, representing over 30% of the entire R&D investment in the Italian private sector. According to a recent survey conducted by ANIE among member companies, in the first semester of 2013 over 70% of small and medium enterprises reported that they actually invested in research and development.
Compared to the past, Italian companies have also reinforced their internationalization strategies towards extra-UE markets. Among geographical areas that showed greater support for the growth of Italian Electrical Engineering and Electronic exports in 2013, Sub Saharan Africa, North Africa and Middle East play a significant role.
